A colorful drawing of animals urging people to READ! is the design on the first ever children’s Naperville Public Library card.  The new card will debut on Sunday, Nov. 6 with a design created by Olivia Carlson, a fifth grader at Brookdale Elementary.  Her design was selected from more than 250 entries during a month long contest this summer.

Naperville residents, of all ages, who come to any Library building between Nov. 6 and 12 may get this new card for free when they replace their old card. Library users are reminded that a new card comes with a new 14 digit card number since their old number will be eliminated.  The new card will continue to be issued for free to children under 18 for the entire month of November.

For adults, replacing your card after the initial one-week period will cost $2 except when you renew your card.  At that time you can replace your card for free.

Card contest winner Carlson and the 19 other finalists will be honored at an official card debut at 2 p.m. on Nov. 6 in the Lower Level of the Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson Ave. Mayor A. George Pradel will be present to recognize the design contest winner and finalists. 

“We are so excited to meet Olivia and the other finalists!  Their hard work and creativity was evident in the lovely designs that were submitted and staff can hardly wait to start issuing the cards!” explains Carla Nolidis, Nichols Library Circulation Supervisor and card contest coordinator.
